What would you do for a million dollars? What would you do for more? It turns out that it’s really not that hard – you don’t even have to do anything complicated! Just tell a few jokes, or talk about something that interests you. “How?” might you ask?
YOUTUBE. The internet provides us with a platform to do, well, whatever we want! More and more people are beginning to realize that YouTube can make you a fortune, and is probably more fun than your current day job as well.
To explain quickly: YouTube attracts millions of pageviews per day, and billions per year. Since YouTube hosts ads on their site, every hit that a video receives generates a small amount of income for YouTube. In fact, YouTube in 2011 pulled in over 900 million dollars according to an announcement they made: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/youtube_millionaires_3h5V8I6FdnVLxQKbwOthoI
YouTube also announced that over 50% of that income per year goes to the video creators. There are a myriad of people who already make a day job out of posting videos, and quite a few people are making more than six figures. A quick look at YouTube stars on http://www.Celebritynetworth.com shows quickly that people such as Ray William Johnson and Bo Burnham are worth $5 million and $3.5 million respectively.
Not only does the internet allow us to make this money by giving people a chance to post widely viewed and subscribed-to videos, but there are also people who have become famous simply from posting their talents on YouTube as well (Justin Bieber, Soulja Boy).
My question is, what would you make videos about if you were a YouTube star?
