I have enjoyed teaching for over 7 years and have been lucky to work with students at the high school, college, and adult level.
At the UW-Madison, I've designed and taught courses for First Year Composition (English 100) and Intermediate Composition (my English 201 syllabus on "Witness and Rhetoric" is available for download in .doc format). In Fall 2008, I taught for a writing-intensive, hybrid online/offline course in the School of Library and Information Studies (LIS 201).
I like to teach writing using blogs and have done so since 2004. You can visit my English 100 and 201 course and student blogs. My course blogs from LIS 201 are password-protected; please contact me if you would like to see them. I've created a website on teaching with blogs to share knowledge with other writing teachers.
In my 4 years tutoring with the UW-Madison Writing Center, I have learned to respond quickly and thoughtfully to freshmen writing biology lab reports, seniors writing medical school applications, multilingual writers working on MA theses, engineers writing dissertations, and everyone in-between. I also had the opportunity to work as an email and chat conferencing tutor, and served as the Online Writing Center Coordinator (2007-2008), training other tutors and running professional development activities.
My teaching portfolio is available online. Please contact me at avee@wisc.edu for the username and password to access it.
